COVID-19: Just Do It Business Transformation

Small businesses that have closed their storefronts during the initial months of the COVID-19 pandemic have some tough choices to make:  Do I stay in business? What is my business going to look like?  How do I balance my responsibilities to my own economic survival and interests against the economic survival and interest of my employees? When should I re-open my business?  What will it look like when I do?

The world as we knew it has shifted under our feet. The $484 billion coronavirus aid package - even if well administered, and there is every sign that these efforts have reached the point of criminal negligence - will keep the wolf at bay only so long. There are lots of things that the government can do, but it will not happen at the Federal level, except perhaps too little, too late, and at the wrong spot to do much good for all but a few. State and Municipal governments have their hands full with health and public safety issues.

Business owners - and especially small business owners - will need to be creative. They `need to "MacGyver" their own post-COVID-19 business transformation solution.  It is time for good old Yankee “Know-How” and American “Can Do” spirit to step to the fore.

But they need not be alone in their exertions. There are some who are trying to help. For example, MCL & Associates (MCL) just recently announced its Free stripped-down, agile “Just Do It” approach that eliminates time-wasting consultative meetings, and laser focuses on identifying the new post-COVID-19 path to follow. The offer is made to all legal business entities on a onetime, first-come, first-serve basis. MCL will give special preference to serving the hard-hit storefront small business community.  Hopefully, whether associated with MCL or not, many more business process improvement and business transformation professionals will step-up and reach out to the small business community.

Volunteer business analysts, process improvement professionals, and experienced business managers will be matched with applying small and medium-sized business to mentor them through an intensive two-week transformation program. The heavy lifting will be done by the business owner, with guidance provided by the volunteer mentor. MCL - or the designated local area coordinator - will have the responsibility for screening all applicant businesses, and making the referral of volunteer process improvement / business transformation professionals.

All mentoring professionals  - including MCL or any of the designated local coordinators  - are expected to refrain from discussing  - or in any way market their professional services -  to the mentee business at any time up to a period of six months (26 weeks)  after mentoring has been concluded for any business assigned.

Foreign-owned companies and business professionals must verify that they are registered to do business in the United States by providing appropriate EIN, State or Municipality entity information, and where this information can be verified.
